Well, its been a long time coming. LBD have been threatening/promising a full on
release for ages, and here it is. 'I Use My Powers For Evil' is the first full
length offering from the Stoke based band, and its a cracker.
The bands sound is best described as 'Misfits meets The Cult meets The Cramps meets Sisters of Mercy meets Sleaze'. So, easy to categorise then........or to put it succinctly, Goth/Sleaze. The bands points of reference are quite easy to pinpoint as you listen to the cd, with some references more obscure than others ( i even found a Rocky Horror Show one).
So, to the songs themselves. Disc opener 'Goth Girls are Easy' is LBDs most recognised track, having first surfaced online aeons ago. Here, it has been re-recorded with new vocalist Luci4, and sound better than ever. This song is a real floor filler, with a very catchy central riff.
Other standouts are the discs title track, a full on six and a half minute long Goth rock out, complete with Hammer-esque organs!Tour Bus is a funny little dig at the cult of the groupie, all snide digs and innuendos. Vampire Lover rounds the cd out in a nicely gothy manner, and is a potential Goth floor filler itself.
The rest of the cd is solid, flitting between Goth and sleaze with ease, whilst always sounding like a coherent whole. This is despite the raft of guest musos who filled in the gaps on every single track (LBD is a core of Luci4 on vox, Mr Peach on Guitars, and Magic Andy on Bass). Indeed, its almost a Stoke Rock Scene supergroup session, with many bands from that fertile scene lending members to the project.
So, if you like Goth, Sleaze, or just want a fucking excellent new cd, I would heartily recommend this disc.
5/5

This is Lesbian Bed Death’s debut release and from the front cover alone you can tell this is going to be a gothic tinged sleazy album then just look at the track titles and it’s confirmed.
Opening track ‘Gothic Girls Are Easy’ is an upbeat track making full use of guitars as the powerful vocals of Luci4 power in and she proves within her first lines she is an incredible vocalist.
The whole album has an edge of rawness which only adds to the overall sound as the eeriness flows throughout. Every track is that little different and their influences show including Motley Crue, HIM, The 69 Eyes and The Cramps to name but a few.
You need to watch out for this album and this band promising things are surely just around the corner. With only a thousand copies of their album out now via gigs and online at www.lesbianbeddeath.net you need to be fast or wait until June to capture the album of a band that are sure to kick up a stir.

The latest offering from Psychophonic Records is the interestingly titled Lesbian Bed Death, which there debut album “I Use My Powers For Evil”
Female fronted gothic rock slightly in the vein of Inkubus Sukkubus although more traditional rock. “Goth Girls Are easy” is a fast paced slightly stereotypical song (Although I get the impression that maybe that’s the point) speaking of Halloween and whorish Goth antics. Very easy to listen too as it grooves on its merry way and musically tight and precise.
The musical stereotype continues with the humorously titled “What Would Satan Do?” Vocalist Luci4’s voice becomes very prominent here and sits up nicely making you take notice. What would he do in your shoes? Indeed!
Tempo and drive stay the same through “Filth” before hitting into a haunting eerie intro for album title track “I Use My Powers For Evil”. A high-octane bouncy song with great drawn out riffs and a chilling synth backbone. Easily the track of the CD
“Tour Bus” leaves its mark as one of the album’s heaviest songs whilst “Everybody’s Dead” hits into another bouncy little number with downbeat lyrics. A good contrast.
One slight problem is a lack of variety in styles and songs, but the tremendous vocals and the sheer enjoyment factor that Lesbian Bed Death induces upon you shatters that one bad point into oblivion.
“Puppets On Black Strings” slows the pace right down for a much more chilled beat. A change that the band handles really well. In contrast “Pretty But Mental” whacks the pace right back up to LBD’s usual quickness.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable CD and definitely worth a listen.
